Taylor began playing music at age 13. Growing up in Harrisonburg, VA, his first loves were guitar and bass. Unfortunately, his school did not offer instruction in stringed instruments, so he played tuba in school while studying guitar and bass privately. He went on to study jazz and classical bass at both the University of Alabama and the University of Tennessee (where he studied with Rusty Holloway). Taylor began performing professionally 12 years ago and has played a variety of styles including rock, jazz, country, and reggae. He also performs classical music in string quintets and other chamber ensembles. He has played with numerous local and national bands and currently tours the country with Christabel & The Jons. Taylor’s extensive formal education and playing experience, combined with an easy-going, flexible personality, make him ideally suited to helping students of all levels and backgrounds pursue their own unique musical paths.
